The Measure of Progress – The Doomsday Clock

The Doomsday Clock is a symbol that represents the likelihood of a man-made global catastrophe. It is used as a measure of progress upon the earth. A mechanism to measure man’s progress toward the complete enslavement and annihilation of all humanity by those in power to do so. By their own calculations, the end is nigh.

Maintained by atomic scientists, the Clock is a metaphor for threats to humanity from unchecked scientific and technical advances. It represents the global catastrophe as “midnight” and how close the world is to a global catastrophe as a number of “minutes” to midnight, assessed in January of each year. The main factors influencing the Clock are nuclear risk and global warming (abrupt climate change). They also monitor any new developments in the life sciences and technology that could inflict irrevocable harm to humanity.

The Clock’s original setting in 1947 was seven minutes to midnight. It has been set backward and forward 24 times since then, the largest-ever number of minutes to midnight being 17 (in 1991), and the smallest 100 seconds (1 minute and 40 seconds) in January 2020.

In 73 years, the countdown on earth has gone from 7 to 1.666 minutes to a man-made existential catastrophe. A significant measure of progress. But everything is accelerating.

To Measure Progress – Worldwide Data tells the story

Our World in Data (OWID) is a scientific online publication that focuses on large global problems such as poverty, disease, hunger, climate change, war, existential risks, and inequality.

This website is the database of databases – a meta-database.

In 2020, Our World in Data became one of the leading organizations to measure progress and publish global data and research on the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the data provided, the number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 works out to be .02% of the total global population of 7.8 billion people. The yearly death toll from cancer alone is over 5.5 times that percentage. A little-known fact is that the cancer epidemic has been caused by vaccines. These long-term effects don’t show up for years. It has been quite lucrative for the “health” industry. Vaccines have become the Gates Foundation’s biggest investment.

Worldwide Database Consultations

The team created and maintained the worldwide database on testing for COVID-19 which is used by the United Nations, the White House, the World Health Organization and epidemiologists and researchers.

The website is also used widely in the media. The BBC and publications like The Washington Post, The New York Times, and The Economist regularly rely on Our World in Data as a source to measure progress in the world.

Private sector companies, like McKinsey Consulting, rely on Our World in Data publications to understand emerging markets and changes in poverty and prosperity.

The Data on Progress and Prosperity

Looking at their data, as of 2018, there are over 2,200 U.S. $ billionaires worldwide, with a combined wealth of over US $9.1 trillion, up from US $7.67 trillion in 2017. The top eight richest billionaires own as much combined wealth as “half the human race.”

The United States has the largest number of billionaires of any country, with 536 as of 2015. As of 2019, there are now a record 607 billionaires in the U.S. This group includes 14 of the world’s 20 richest people. Jeff Bezos (Amazon) is again number 1 in the world, followed by Bernard Arnault and family (fashion), and Bill Gates (Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) at number 3.

The most intense preoccupations of the leaders in Silicon Valley include transhumanism, artificial intelligence, life extension, and simulation theory. Clearly there is no belief in nor regard for God here. They worship the work of their own hands. The intent is to run the world according to their will and their vain imagination.

Data Bank a source for Education

Institutions that rely on this online publication for their teaching include Harvard, the University of Oxford, Stanford University, the University of Chicago, The University of Cambridge, and the University of California Berkeley. Our World in Data is used by teachers and lecturers in a range of subjects including medicine, psychology, biology, sustainable development, economics, history, politics, and public policy.

The publication has received grants from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Department of Health and Social Care in the United Kingdom and the Nuffield Foundation as well as donations from hundreds of individuals. They just can’t get enough data. They’re addicted to data as a measure of progress.

1) Climate change

Climate change includes both the global warming driven by human emissions of greenhouse gases, and the resulting large-scale shifts in weather patterns. Since the mid-20th century, humans have had unprecedented impact on Earth’s climate system and caused change on a global scale.

2) Artificial intelligence – AI

Existential risk from artificial general intelligence is the hypothesis that substantial progress in artificial general intelligence (AGI) could someday result in human extinction or some other unrecoverable global catastrophe. It is argued that the human species currently dominates other species because the human brain has some distinctive capabilities that other animals lack. If AI surpasses humanity in general intelligence and becomes “superintelligent”, then it could become difficult or impossible for humans to control.

3) Biotechnology risk

Biotechnology risk is a form of existential risk that could come from biological sources, such as genetically engineered biological agents (GMO). The origin of such a high-consequence pathogen could be a deliberate release (in the form of bioterrorism or biological weapons), an accidental release, or a naturally occurring event.

A biological agent (also called a biological warfare agent, biological weapon, or bioweapon) is a bacterium, virus, protozoan, parasite, or fungus that can be used purposefully as a weapon in bioterrorism or biological warfare (BW). In addition to these living or replicating pathogens, toxins and biotoxins are also included among the bio-agents. More than 1,200 different kinds of potentially weaponizable bio-agents have been described and studied to date.

4) Ecological collapse

Ecological collapse refers to a situation where an ecosystem suffers a drastic, possibly permanent, reduction in carrying capacity for all organisms, often resulting in mass extinction. Usually, an ecological collapse is precipitated by a disastrous event occurring on a short time scale i.e., sudden climate change.

5) Molecular nanotechnology

“Gray/grey goo” is a hypothetical global catastrophic scenario involving molecular nanotechnology in which out-of-control self-replicating machines consume all biomass on Earth while building more of themselves, a scenario that has been called ecophagy (“eating the environment”, more literally “eating the habitation”).

6) Nuclear holocaust

A nuclear holocaust, nuclear apocalypse or atomic holocaust is a theoretical scenario where the mass detonation of nuclear weapons causes globally widespread destruction and radioactive fallout. Under such a scenario, large parts of the Earth are made uninhabitable by nuclear warfare, potentially causing the collapse of civilization. The half-life of this type of fallout is thousands of years.

7) Overpopulation

Overpopulation occurs when a species’ population becomes so excessive that people deem it must be managed. It can result from an increase in births (fertility rate), a decline in the mortality rate, an increase in immigration, or a depletion of resources. When overpopulation occurs the available resources become too limited for the entire population to survive comfortably.

Over the last 200 years world population has grown 6-8 fold from 1.1 billion in 1820 to the current figure which is 7.8 billion in 2020.

8) Global Pandemic

A pandemic (from Greek πᾶν, pan, “all” and δῆμος, demos, “people”) is an epidemic of an infectious disease that has spread across a large region, for instance multiple continents or worldwide, affecting a substantial number of people.

The anthropogenic destruction of biodiversity is paving the way to the pandemic era and could result in as many as 850,000 viruses being transmitted from animals – in particular birds and mammals – to humans. The “exponential rise” in consumption and trade of commodities such as meat, palm oil, and metals, largely facilitated by developed nations, and a growing human population, are the primary drivers of this destruction.

The word ‘doom’ comes from the Hebrew word ‘dan’, which means judge or judgment. ‘Judgment Day’ which is that great Day of the Lord is here. He brought this place into being and He will bring about the end of it. And He will bring the ways of man upon his own head.
