According to the encyclopedia: “the Passover sacrifice, also known as the Paschal lamb or the Passover lamb, is the sacrifice that the Torah mandates the Israelites to ritually slaughter on the evening of Passover, and eat on the first night of the holiday with bitter herbs and matzo.”
Take a look here and see how much deeper the meaning of this Feast goes as it relates to Christ, our Salvation and Deliverance. For the time is at hand!
Israel Enslaved
After the death all twelve of the Patriarchs of Israel, the Pharaoh put the children of Israel into slavery to build up the defenses of Egypt. He forgot all the good things Joseph had done for them. The Israelites where greatly multiplied so Pharaoh ordered all the male children to be thrown into the river and drowned. One baby was saved from death and that was Moses. God chose him to deliver Israel out from the bondage of Egypt. He received instructions from God on how to accomplish this.
The Passover Lamb
God’s instructions to Moses: “Your lamb shall be without blemish … And you shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it… And thus shall you eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it in haste: it is the Lord’s Passover.
For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. And the blood shall be to you for a token/sign upon the houses where you are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.”
Exodus 12:5-13
The Passover Moon was a Full Moon on that fourteenth day. It gave them light all night to guide them in the darkness.
“Do not think that I am come to destroy the Law, or the Prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For truly I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the Law, till all is fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least Commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the lowest in the Kingdom of Heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.”
Jesus – Matthew 5:17-19
The Lamb of God
At the time of Jesus: “…John the Baptist saw Jesus coming to him and said, ‘Behold the Lamb of God, which takes upon himself the sin of the world… And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.”
John 1:29-34
“…Forasmuch as you know that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a Lamb without blemish and without spot: Who truly was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but is manifest in these last times for you; Who by him, do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.”
1 Peter 1:14-21
The Unleavened Bread
It was a requirement to eat ‘unleavened bread’ along with the meat of the lamb. Jesus explained the meaning of this bread.
“…Jesus began to say to his disciples first of all, ‘Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees/Priests, which is hypocrisy…”
Luke 12:1-2
“Purge out therefore the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, as you are unleavened. For even Christ, our Passover, is sacrificed for us. Therefore, let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.”
Paul – 1 Corinthians 5:7-10
The Meat of the Lamb
“Jesus said to them, ‘I have meat to eat that you don’t know of’. Therefore, the disciples said to one another, ‘Has any man brought him anything to eat?’
John 4:31-34
Jesus said to them, ‘My meat is to do the Will of Him that sent me, and to finish His work.”
“Truly, truly, I say unto you, ‘He that believes on me has everlasting life. I am that bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness and are dead. This is the bread which comes down from Heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. I am the Living Bread which came down from Heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world/cosmos.
The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, ‘How can this man give us his flesh to eat?’ Then Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say unto you, ‘Except you eat the flesh of the Son of Adam and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoso eats my flesh and drinks my blood, has eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood, dwells in me, and I in him. As the living Father has sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eats me, even he shall live by me. This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eats of this bread shall live forever.”
When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said to them, ‘Does this offend you? What and if you shall see the Son of Adam ascend up where he was before? It is the Spirit that quickens/makes alive; the flesh profits nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”
John 6:47-58, 61-62
“…But what is this very thing which will inherit? It is that which belongs to Jesus and his blood. Because of this he said, “He who shall not eat my flesh and drink my blood has not life in him” (John 6:53). What is it? His flesh is the Word, and his blood is the Holy Spirit. He who has received these has food and he has drink and clothing…”
The Gospel of Philip :17, The Nag Hammadi Library
“For God has manifested to us by all His prophets, that He has no occasion for our sacrifices, or burnt-offerings, or oblations: saying this; ‘To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to Me’, says the LORD. ‘I am full of the burnt-offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I do not delight in the blood of bullocks/heifers, or lambs or of he-goats. When you come to appear before Me; who has required this at your hands? You shall no more tread My courts. Bring no more vain oblations, incense is an abomination to Me; your new moons and sabbaths; the calling of assemblies I cannot have with, it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting; your new moons and your appointed feasts My soul hates!
God has abolished these things, therefore, that the New Law of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah ben Levi, which is without the yoke of any such necessity, might have the spiritual offering of men themselves.”
Epistle of Barnabas 2:4-9
The Blood of the Lamb
“And they cried with a loud voice, saying, ‘Salvation to our God which sits upon the throne, and unto the Lamb’. And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four living creatures and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshiped God, Saying, ‘Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honor, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.
And one of the elders answered, saying to me, ‘What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and where have they come from?’ And I said to him, ‘Sir, you know’. And he said to me, ‘These are they which have come out of Great Tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the Blood of the Lamb. Therefore, they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His Temple: and he that sits on the throne shall dwell among them. They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them and shall lead them unto the Fountain of Living Waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.”
Revelation 7:10-17
“And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceives the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
Revelation 12:7-12
And I heard a loud voice saying in Heaven, Now is come Salvation, and strength, and the Kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the Blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. Therefore rejoice, you Heavens and you that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has but a short time.”
“And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which stands for the children of your people: and there shall be a time of Great Tribulation, such as never has never been seen before: and at that time your people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. And they that are wise shall shine as the brightness of the Firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.”
Daniel 12:1-3
Remember
“If you shall say in your heart, ‘These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?’ You shall not be afraid of them: but shall well remember what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt; The great temptations which your eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the stretched out arm, whereby the LORD your God brought you out: so shall the LORD your God do unto all the people of whom you are afraid…”
Deuteronomy 7:17-23
“Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be said, ‘The LORD lives, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt’; But, ‘The LORD lives, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands where He had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.”
Jeremiah 16:14-15
“Jesus said to them, ‘When you have lifted up the Son of Adam, then you shall know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father has taught me, I speak these things. And He that sent me is with me: the Father has not left me alone; for I always do those things that please Him.
As he spoke these words, many believed him. Then Jesus said to those which believed him, ‘If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed; And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
John 8:28-32
“Jesus answered and said, ‘If a man loves me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that does not love me does not keep my sayings: and the Word which you hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me. These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said to you.”
John 14:23-26
That Promised Prophet
“Repent therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; And He shall send Christ, which before was preached unto you: Whom the Heaven must receive until the times of restitution/restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began.
For Moses truly said to the fathers, ‘A prophet shall the LORD your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall you hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. Yes, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days.
You are the children of the prophets, and of the Covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, ‘In your seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. Unto you first, God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.”
Acts 3:19-26
