Prophecy Monthly – August 2024

The month of August was a month of instability. The Ukraine-Russia war escalated with attacks from both sides reaching further into their opponents territory. The Middle East wars escalated with the largest exchange of fire on the Lebanon-Israel border as well as increased raids in the West Bank. The US military presence was increased in both the Middle East and the Asia Pacific. In politics, the Democratic Party swapped out one presidential candidate for another, while the Republican Party appointed two former Democrats to their transition team. Extreme weather hit more record milestones with record heat around the globe. A new disease called Mpox (aka Monkeypox) is making the news and antibiotics are becoming less and less effective against super-bugs. All this instability, or chaos and confusion, is showing no signs of slowing down.

The following map is a summary of current events related to prophecy. Below the map you will find the event details and relevant Scriptural references. Many people have been taught God’s Word in the past tense. This is incorrect. The teachings and scenarios in the Bible and God’s Word are all prophetic, pointing to a future time, and that time is now.

Extreme Weather

Volcanoes, Earthquakes & Heatwaves

A 7.1 magnitude earthquake near Japan shook the coast, but caused no major damage. In Russia a 7.0 earthquake was followed by a volcanic eruption that spewed ash 1.5 miles into the air. A volcano in Iceland started to erupt again. This was the 6th eruption event since December of last year.

Australia’s winter temperature records were broken with a ‘really unusual’ heatwave. Almost 50% of the country reached the hottest 1% on record.

In the US, an excessive heat watch was called for much of central and eastern states. July was the hottest month on record for the State of California. A retreating glacier in Alaska is now causing annual flooding in Juneau. Over 100 homes and businesses were damaged by floodwaters after water emerged from under and around an ice dam. July was just slightly cooler on a global scale when compared to July of 2023. This interrupted a 13-month streak of heat records.

Wildfires

A look back at the Canadian wildfires of 2023 determined that more greenhouse gases were released during the fires than seven out of the 10 largest emitting nations. Only China, India and the United Stated emitted more carbon into the atmosphere. In addition, the fires emitted more in the one season, than is typical over a decade of wildfires.

This past month, the environmental minister of Brazil declared ‘war’ with fire due to a surge in historic fires. Smoke from these fires has closed schools and grounded flights.

Solar Weather

The suns activity reached a peak in August that hasn’t been seen in over 20 years. The sunspot number for the month, an indication of activity, exceeded 200 for the first time in twenty-three years. Will it go even higher this month?

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”

2 Peter 3:10

Storms & Floods

Heavy rains caused sever flooding and a dam to fail in Sudan. At least 20 villages were wiped out in a country already suffering from a civil war.

China experienced a record number of ‘significant’ floods while 300,000 people fled monsoon rains in India and Bangladesh. Similarly, rains in Dehli broke a fourteen year record with almost 6 inches in a single day. Nearby, almost 23 inches of rain fell in two days leading to landslides that killed almost 200 people.

“For now disasters have come upon the whole world, and you will stay among them, for God will not deliver you because you have sinned against Him.”

2 Esdras 15:27

Tribulations

Antibiotic resistant infections are becoming a global disaster. At least 1 million people are killed each year globally from related infections prompting a summit of doctors to look at the rising issue. A new public heath emergency ‘of international concern’ has been declared by the World Health Organization. Mpox or Monkeypox is spreading in Africa.

Globally, young people are experiencing a surge in mental health issues. Experts are calling this an ‘unprecedented’ challenge partially driven by employment insecurity and ‘unregulated’ social media resulting in an increase in premature death and disability.

“And he answered and said to me: ‘You also will be preserved until that time, namely until that sign which the Most High will bring about before the inhabitants of the earth at the end of days. When horror seizes the inhabitants of earth, and they fall into many tribulations and further, they fall into great torments. And it will happen that they will say in their thoughts because of their great tribulations, ‘The Mighty One does not anymore remember the earth’; It will happen when they lose hope, that the time will awake.”

Wars and Rumors of Wars

Israel-Hamas War

The Israel-Hamas war has claimed more lives on both sides. A humanitarian convoy that had been approved for travel by Israel was attacked by an airstrike by Israel. Israel claims armed assailants were trying to hijack the convoy while the humanitarian aid company said, those killed were employees of the transportation company. Thirty-six Palestinians were killed in one day from Israeli airstrikes. On another day, eighteen members of one family were killed including eleven siblings. Two schools and a hospital were attacked in Gaza leaving at least 30 dead. A ‘safe zone’ in Gaza has filled up leaving many Palestinians in areas at higher risk of airstrikes. In August, the death toll in Gaza surpassed 40,000.

Fighting continues not only in Gaza, but also in the West Bank. At least ten Palestinians were killed in one day from raids and airstrikes.

Prior to the current war 140,000 Palestinians from the West bank traveled into Israel for work. Israel suspended entry for those workers, leaving them unemployed. Many are now running out of savings, facing economic hardships on top of the ongoing violence. Another tactic of the war has been destruction of dams, pipelines and treatment plants in both Gaza and the West Bank. Attacking the water supplies of the Palestinians ruins ‘the basic conditions for life in Gaza’ one of the elements of the crime of genocide. Israel has rejected this conclusion.

Fighting with Hezbollah

To the North of Israel, fighting with Hezbollah in Lebanon reached a new peak with rockets and drones from Hezbollah hitting Israel, and Israel hitting Lebanon with fighter jets.

Middle East

The US conducted a joint raid with Iraq against the ISIS leaders in the western Iraqi dessert killing at least 15 people. Seven US troops were injured in the raid. Additional US fighter jets and warships were sent to the Middle East after a Hamas leader was killed in Tehran.

“Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, don’t perish by it, turn from it, and pass away. For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.”

Proverbs 4:14-17

“And it shall come to pass in the last days… many people shall come and say, ‘Come, and let us go up to the Mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and He will teach us of His ways, … and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.”

Isaiah 2:2-4

Ukraine-Russian War

Ukraine and Russia intensified their attacks on each other. Russia sent hundreds of missiles and drones targeting the energy infrastructure of Ukraine. Ukraine used its drones to attempt an attack on Moscow that was unsuccessful, but did manage to take out key bridges used by Russia for its war supply chain. Countries, including the US, have been limiting how Ukraine can use weapons they supplied. Ukraine is pushing to eliminate those restrictions. The US fulfilled its commitment to supply F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine in August. It is no surprise Zelensky wants to use them without restrictions.

“Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths. The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goes therein shall not know peace.”

Isaiah 59:7-8

Rumors of War

Annual talks between Australia and the US resulted in a plan for ‘more frequent’ bomber deployments from the US to Australia in response to China’s ‘dangerous’ behavior in the Asia Pacific.

“You shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that you are not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.”

Matthew 24:5

Violence

Violence in Myanmar from a drone attack resulted in 200 deaths, while a terrorist attack in Mogadishu resulted in 37 deaths on a beach.

Abuse

A report looking at the FBI’s response to suspected child sexual abuse found the organization failed to carry out investigations, in one case for over a year, and did not report some allegations to state agencies. Investigation is part of the FBI’s title, yet they failed these children in doing just that.

Federal immigration detention centers in Louisiana have been exposed to be rampant with abuse. Both physical and sexual abuse were reported in the centers which are often privately owned by for-profit companies. One of those companies, Geo Group, reported annual revenues of $2.4 billion in 2023.

“The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. And God looked upon the earth and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. And God said to Noah, ‘The end of all flesh is come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.’”

Genesis 6

Hypocrisy

Helping Abusers, not victims

A common tactic for abusive priests to avoid attention is to move them from state to state. This is exactly what happened just this last year in New Orleans. After a priest reportedly attempted to assault a New Orleans woman after which he was quietly moved to the Midwest. A police investigation is ongoing, but one thing is for sure, the church is not being transparent with their activities.

Speaking of abuse investigations, district attorneys (DAs) have a direct role in ongoing investigations. Kamala Harris accepted the nomination to run for president this past month. The first time she ran for president in 2019, clergy sexual abuse victims questioned her actual record on supporting victims. According to one attorney for victims ‘Of all the DAs in the Bay Area, she’s the only one who wouldn’t cooperate with us.’

“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees (religious teachers), hypocrites! for you are like unto white washed sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so you also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.”

Matthew 23:27-28

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a tool now being used in various applications across the globe. In Argentina, the president has initiated a security unit to use AI to predict future crimes. Large-scale surveillance, like facial recognition software and analysis of social media, will be the inputs used to predict potential threats and disturbances. But this intelligence is artificial! How can you persecute people for something they may or may not do based on an algorithm? This is not righteous.

Protests

Protestors in Africa took to the streets due to the rising Cost of Living. Doctors protested in India after the rape and murder of a medic.

Protests in Bangladesh turned deadly when almost 100 people were killed denouncing their prime minister. More than 10,000 people were arrested. During the protests the internet was turned off as a method to dampen down the protests. This is becoming a common tactic by governments worldwide.

In Canada, rail workers went on strike demanding a better work-life balance by scheduling and staffing changes.

The war in Gaza continues to fuel protests, including at the Democratic National Convention. Multiple arrests were made during clashes with police.

Luke 21:25

Caught in Unawares

“And take heed to yourself, lest at any time your hearts are overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness1“The serpents are the leaders of the peoples and their wine is their ways.” DD 3:19, and cares of this life, and so that day comes upon you in unawareness. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. You watch therefore, and pray always, that you may be able to escape all these things that shall come to pass and to stand before the Son of Adam.”
